The five municipalities of Hohenems, Götzis, Altach, Koblach and Mäder have decided to establish the municipal association “Middle Rhine Valley Waste Collection Center”.
The aim is to build and operate a modern waste collection center (ASZ) for efficient and sustainable waste management in the region.
The new ASZ Mittleres Rheintal will be built in Kobel on the Götzis municipal area. The Götzis Agricultural Community is providing a plot of land for this purpose under a building lease for 40 years with an option to extend for a further 40 years.
The municipal association assumes central tasks in the field of waste management, including:
- Construction, operation and administration of the waste collection center,
- Provision of a collection point for waste materials, packaging waste, hazardous materials, bulky waste, construction rubble, green waste, old electrical appliances, etc.
- Controlled acceptance, interim storage and transfer of waste for recycling or disposal,
- Advice and support for delivering citizens,
- Organisation of decentralised waste collections and coordinated collection services (e.g. for bulky waste),
- Public relations in the field of waste management.
financing and cost distribution
The ongoing operating costs are primarily covered by the income from the waste collection center. Internally, the municipalities are liable in proportion to the number of participating residents. The town of Hohenems will initially participate with half of its residents. A decision will be made by the end of 2025 as to whether another ASZ will be built together with Dornbirn. If this does not happen, Hohenems will be fully integrated into the association. The municipality of Koblach will participate with a third of its population. Koblach is already part of the ASZ Vorderland with two thirds of its residents.
"By joining forces, we are creating a sustainable and efficient solution for waste disposal in the region. With the new waste collection center, we are offering citizens a central, easily accessible point of contact for the disposal of various types of waste. This not only saves costs, but also increases convenience. At the same time, we are making an important contribution to sustainability by shortening transport routes, conserving resources and enabling professional recycling. In this way, we are bringing efficiency, cost-effectiveness and environmental awareness into harmony," emphasize the mayors Manfred Böhmwalder (ASZ location municipality Götzis), Dieter Egger (Hohenems), Markus Giesinger (Altach), Daniel Schuster (Mäder) and Gerd Hölzl (Koblach).
